Expressions of interest are being sought from potential Public-Private
Partners (PPP or P3) willing to finance, design, construct, operate and/or
maintain a managed-lane highway and transit facilities along the I-270 multi-modal
corridor in Maryland.
The I-270 multi-modal corridor consists of Interstate Highway
I-270, from its interchange with I-70 in the north to its interchange with
I-495 (the Capital Beltway) in the south, through the west spur, including
an adjacent Transitway, and the western segment of the I-495 Capital Beltway
to the Virginia State line at the American Legion Bridge. The corridor is one
of the most congested areas of the state. This P3 project is designed to ease
congestion and to provide time-saving alternatives for motorists.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), including the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA), the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) and the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) have initiated limited studies into the feasibility of additional capacity to the I-270 Corridor. Potential upgrades may include a transitway from the Shady Grove Metro Station to the COMSAT facility just south of Clarksburg, interchange upgrades, and the addition of general purpose lanes (GPL), High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) lanes or Express Toll Lanes (ETL). Interested parties could partner for all or a portion of the proposed improvements in the I-270 Corridor.
If you are interested in learning more about the I-270 multi-modal
corridor P3 opportunity with SHA, MTA and MdTA, please attend the Pre-Submission
Conference.
